Caldwell Boat #3, early 1900s. It was a "big thing" in the early 1900s when this group of Leake Countians boarded the Caldwell No. 3 for a Forth of July picnic voyage to Collier's Ferry, near Edinburg. Among those identified on the holiday outing were the boat owner, Captain Henry Caldwell, shown at right of the flagpole, while young Percy Phillips (in straw hat) is at far left with his sister, Mrs. Henry Caldwell, and his future bride, Miss Lillian Ellis. The nearby boys, at left, are identified as Mack Phillips and Tom Brooks. In the window are Hattie Wright Massey and Rosie Brooks Sherman. Standing on deck are Kate Jones and Ruby Wright and the white bearded gentleman is John Snuggs. To see the full story from the Aug 28, 1975 Carthaginian - Click Here. |
