Wed, Aug 23 - Fri Aug 25 (Denali National Park):
Wednesday we rode the bus all the way to
Wonder Lake (about 85 miles into the park) and we saw fox, wolf, caribou, grizzly bear, moose and ptarmigan.  Thursday we had misty rain and low visibility so we stayed in the trailer all day.  Friday, we woke to 20 degrees and ice on the windshield.  We rode the bus to the old mining town of Kantishna at the end of the park road, 93 miles into the park.  We had nice weather and saw the bottom of the mountain.  We saw grizzly bears, caribou, and dall sheep.  When we drove out of the park, that afternoon, one caribou ran along in front of us for a mile or so.
Sat, Aug 26 - Tue, Aug 29 (Back at Anchorage):
Saturday we were back in Anchorage at the
Ft. Richardson FamCamp.  Temp was 65.  A real heat wave!!  Sue visited a quilt store, we got the van serviced and new brake shoes installed.  We visited with Danny and Paula, shopped at the commissary and PX, sat around the campground, made friends with a red squirrel, rested and Joe had his 61st birthday on the 27th.
Wed, Aug 30 - Thu, Aug 31 (Kenai and Homer, on the west coast):
      Wednesday we drove to
Kenai and stayed in the Fred Meyer parking lot.  A Russian Orthodox Church and Chapel, there, were interesting and pretty.  We drove to Homer (home of Tom Bodell, who makes Motel 6 ads), and the Halibut capital of the world.  On Thursday we went back to Anchorage.
Fri, Sep 1 - Mon Sep 4 ( Anchorage area):
It rained all day Friday.  Saturday was sunny and we sat outside all day and watched the squirrels and birds.  Sunday, we started getting ready to leave.  On Monday (Labor day) we visited Danny and Paula for the last time and they took us up Skyline Drive overlooking Anchorage.  We got video but no pictures.
Tue, Sep 5 - Thu Sep 7 (Paxson, Denali Hwy, Delta Junction, Chicken):
      We left for Paxson, passed
Mantanuska Glacier and got a view of the Wrangel Mtns..  The leaves were in full fall color, the temp was 45 and there was fresh snow on the mountains, so we knew it was time to be heading south.  We saw a pair of swans on a lake.  We left the trailer at Paxson and drove the Denali Hwy.  There was lots of beautiful scenery, but it was hunting season and the only wildlife we saw were hunters and some ptarmigan.    We went to Delta Junction, the end of the Alaska Hwy, which we didn't get to on the trip up and then back to Tok, where we parted with Neal.  We took the Top of the World Hwy toward Dawson City and he went back the way we came in.  We went through some of the worst construction of the trip.  The temporary road was boulders the size of our heads .  We stopped at Chicken, AK and camped at a BLM campground in the middle of nowhere.
