Sun, Sep 17 - Tue, Sep 19 (Jasper and Banff Parks anf the Icefields Parkway):
We headed SE through the town of McBride, to Jasper, AB, where we saw a big totem pole, and Jasper Park. We stopped at a roadside park, for lunch, and saw two young grizzly bears hanging around the dumpster. Since we didn't want to share our lunch with the grizzlies, we ate inside. We stayed a Wapiti Campground in Jasper Park. Elk were everywhere. We saw a big bull trumpeting by the road. We saw a herd of bighorn sheep by the road. On Monday we continued down the Icefields Parkway. There was lots of snow on the roadsides and on trees in the mountain passes. The scenery was fantastic and we stayed at Lake Louise Campground. Tuesday, we went on down the Icefields and through Calgary, to Drumheller. They had 5" of snow at Calgary, the day before. There was snow along the roadsides, on trees and housetops, but not on the roads.
Wed, Sep 20 - Sat, Sep 23 (On across Canada and back to Minnesota, USA):
At Drumheller we visited Royal Tyrell Dinosaur Museum. We continued east to Tillebrook where we camped at Dinosaur Provincial Park. On Thursday, we went to Regina, Saskatchewan. On Friday AM, the water was frozen in the hose to the trailer. We drove across Manitoba to Winnepeg. On Saturday, we crossed the border at International Falls, MN, and stayed in the city campground at Gilbert, MN. We were the only campers.
Sun, Sep 24 - Wed, Sep 27 (Visiting the Lynn's in Minnesota):
We camped at Savage, MN near Minneapolis to visit our old navy friends, Bob and Anne Lynn at Burnsville. We stayed 3 days and had a great time. On Wednesday, we went to Kiefer WI and stayed at the Rustic Barn Campground. They had a pretty little chapel on the campground. We traveled the Old River Road, bought apples and cider. It was very pretty country and warm enough to use the A/C.
Thu, Sep 28 - Sat, Sep 30 (Mark Twain museum and visiting Paula and Bob Anschutz):
On Thursday, we stopped at a Wendy's in McComb, Ill and had a flat tire. The first flat of the trip, after all the bad roads. We spent the night at Mark Twain Campground in Hannibal, MO. Friday we visited Mark Twain boyhood home and museum. We went Chillocothe, MO to visit Paula Anschutz, an old classmate of Sue's. We stayed 2 days with Paula and Bob, while she and Sue relived old memories.
Sun, Oct 1 - Sun, Oct 15 (Eureka Springs, AR, Petit Jean SP, and the trip home):
We spent 3 days in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, seeing the sights there, then 3 days at Petit Jean State Park. We crossed back into Mississippi on the 7th and spent 3 days at Warfield Point Park in Greenville. From there we went south to Florence, MS and stayed 5 days renewing old aquaintance with our daughter Nita, son-in-law Bob Best and our grandchildren Nathan and Jenna Best. On October 15th we were back home, after a GREAT trip.
