Sunday, Jan 2 - Monday, Jan 10 (Florence, MS, with Family to Mimbres, NM): Sunday, Jan 2, we went to Florence, MS, to visit the kids and grandkids. We left on Friday, Jan 7, and stayed in Canton, TX. On Saturday, we made it to Big Springs, TX, and on Sunday, to El Paso, where we stayed at Roadrunner RV Park. On Monday AM, we took a Van Tour into Juarez, Mexico and saw where several of our factories went after NAFTA. We were back at the campground at 12:30 and on the road at 1:30. We arrived at Mimbres, NM at 4:30. Wandra (the sub-division and Campground owner) checked us in and Ed & Polly Roy came out to meet us. Tuesday, Jan 11 - Friday, Jan 14 (Visiting Ed & Polly Roy in Mimbres, NM): Tuesday was a bright, sunny day. Ed came by and invited us to ride with them to Silver City. We went to Walmart and ate lunch at Long John Silver's. We sat outside for awhile in the afternoon, until the wind picked up and it got cold. Wednesday, Polly came over and visited with Sue while Joe went with Ed to set up a computer for, Linda, Wandra's step daughter. In the afternoon they took us to see Linda's house, up on the mountain with lots of windows. Quite a view. They invited us to go to lunch, on Thursday, at the home of Ruth Bounds, Wandra's, 96 year old mother, on their ranch. The Bounds' were one of the very earliest settlers in this valley and we really enjoyed some of the stories she had to tell. Friday, Ed and Polly visited for awhile and their daughter, Celia, stopped by to say, "Hi", and to pick them up. Our campground neighbors came by and sat out with us for awhile. Saturday, Jan 15 - Monday, Jan 24 (Ft Huachuca, Sierra Vista, AZ): We traveled to Ft. Huachucha, at Sierra Vista, AZ, where we stayed in overflow at the Sportsman's Center. The main campground is booked solid for the season, as they have no time limit. No problem, since we have water and electric here. We noticed the windshield had popped out about an inch on 1 corner, so Monday, Joe called a glass company and we took it windshield re-installed, while we went next door and ate donuts for a late breakfast. Tuesday, we went to the base laundry, sat out, read and rested the rest of the day. Wednesday, we drove to Tombstone, AZ. It has, mostly, been converted into a tourist trap. We didn't go in to see the OK Corral (Now behind an 8' high fence) because that cost $20 each. Thursday, we stayed in camp, bought some binoculars at the Sportsmans Center and watched the total eclipse of the moon. |
