On the Road e-mail #3a (February 17-18)
Southern Arizona

Sat, Feb 17 Joe & Nancy Sue Reeves "On the Road" :
It was pretty and sunny today so we went to Bisbee, about 30 miles away.  It is an old mining town and the mine has been in operation since the late 1800s.  They mine copper, silver, tourquoise, lead  and a few other things.  The mines are scattered all over the area with one large pit, a few hundred feet deep, right by the highway.  The area is hilly and steep, with some of the houses hanging right on the side of the mountains.  We visited an old Catholic church, built in 1917 with some really impressive stained glass windows, throughout.  Most of the town still had old buildings from 100 years ago, now occupied by shops selling junk to the tourists.  There was a tour of the mine available and a mining museum but, since we'd seen similar things before, we decided to save our money.  We stopped at Wendy's for a late lunch and came home.  There was a roadrunner under our picnic table this afternoon and we think Sue got a picture of him.  The coyotes were howling very close, tonight.

Sun, Feb 18:
Today we did laundry, picked up a few supplies, sent e-mail and got ready to go.  We are going to Organ Pipe Catus National Monument, west of here, for a few days, and from there to Yuma, AZ for awhile.  We should be able to send e-mail again when we get to Yuma.
