On (off) the Road (temporarily) # 1 - 2004

If you're wondering if (1) we've stopped traveling; (2) stopped doing "On the Road" or (3) died, the answers are, (1) temporarily; (2) until we have something to report; and (3) still kicking, so far.
We got home to problems of neglect to our fixed home.  There was some water in the basement room so we had to work on the drainage and chipped through the concrete wall to install a sump pump below the floor level where the water was entering.  Also ripped out the bottom 3' of wall paneling, which had become moldy and replaced it with vinyl soffit material and now seem to have a dry basement again.  Still to go is new vinyl tile on the floor.  We have ripped out carpet in the dining room and both main floor baths and replaced it with Pergo flooring, which looks like hardwood but is really a relative of formica counter top.  Sue has been working in the yard, spraying Roundup and trying to reclaim it from the encroaching jungle.  With all the problems with the fixed homesite and various medical problems (Joe may still be getting a hip replacement), we have no immdiate plans to return to "On the Road".  We may make a short (4-6 week) trip or two but don't plan any major deployment for this year.  With the price of gas, we couldn't have picked a better time to stand down for awhile.
If we ever get done with maintenance on the fixed home, Joe plans to scan photos, and transfer from video, pictures of our earlier travels, including our 1995 Alaska trip and get those pages on the website.

Off the road for now but watch our website for developments.

PS: If you haven't been getting "On the Road" lately and want to get back on the list, send us an email and ask to be added.  If you have been getting it and don't want it, send an email to be taken off.  We no longer send pictures attached to email, but put all pictures along with "On the Road" email on the website.
