Well, it's late May and we're still at our fixed
home in downtown Freeny, Mississippi. A friend asked Joe where we are
going this year and he said, "To Baptist Medical Center for a hip replacement".
We are going to Jackson almost every week for doctor visits and on Saturday,
May 22, we attended a surprise birthday party for our son-in-law Bob Best.
He turned 50. Even our kids are getting OLD. If we had to
take a year off from traveling, this was a good year to do so. The gas prices
are ridiculous. On Wednesday, June 9th, Joe went to Baptist Medical Center and got his hip replacement. He was hurting most of the day in the recovery room and got loaded up on morphine. This made his blood pressure go low, so they cut out his blood pressure medicine, not knowing it was also controlling his heart rate. On Monday, he moved to Methodist Rehabilitation Center. That night, his heart rate ran away, he went into atrial fibrillation, and was moved to the Cardiac ICU at St. Dominic's Hospital. Three different hospitals in one day - could that be a record? The heart rate was brought under control by the next morning but they kept him until Friday, changed all his medicine and got him on something to control the heart rate without dropping his blood pressure. On Friday, June 18, he was back at Methodist Rehab Center. A week later, after some intensive therapy, he was walking around the room on two canes and today, Friday, the 25th, he came home. |
