Amicalola Falls (re-visited), Dry Falls and Bridal Veil Falls

Saturday- Tuesday, October 2-5, 2004:
      On
Saturday, I made a run to Walmart, then just goofed off the rest of the day.  I read a brochure on waterfalls, which indicated I should have been able to get closer to the Amicalola Falls than the distant picture on the last webpage, so on Sunday, I drove back there and was able to get VERY close to the falls.  I got pictures from a bridge above the falls, another bridge part way down the falls and from a view point down a few steps from there.  I was able to ride my cripple cart down to the lower bridge.  The claimed 729' height must be mostly below this point.  They said the base of the falls was 427 stair steps and .3 miles farther down the trail and I'd have to climb back up to the car, so I didn't try it.  I got back to camp and started geeting ready to leave.  On Monday, I went to Franklin, NC and parked at Walmart, where I discovered the water supply pump was not working and the refrigerator would not work on propane.  I found an RV repair place, got it fixed, left the M/H at Walmart and took the car to look for a waterfall, about which, my son Bruce had told me.  It was an interesting fall.  It is called "Dry Falls", though it was NOT dry, and it spilled off an over hanging rock ledge making it possible to walk behind the falls without getting wet.  Is that why it's called "Dry Falls"?  There was also a small cave under the falls.  I saw a small falls beside the road and shot a picture out the car window.  There was a "Bridal Veil Falls" on the map a little farther along and it was right on the road.  It looked very familar and I'm sure we saw it 4-5 years ago when we came home by that route.  I got back late so I'll spend the night at Walmart.  On Tuesday AM, I woke up cold and had to get more cover.  The low was 42 outside and 48 inside.  At 9:30AM it is just 48 outside and the valleys are covered in fog.  The sun is shining on this hilltop at Walmart so the fog should lift soon.  In the meantime, I decided to finish and send this email and post it to the website, while I have a strong cell phone signal.
