November, 2007:
           On November 1,
we went to Jackson to be with our daughter during her surgery.  Things went better than anticipated, the surgery was over quickly, the pollyp was removed, and there was no cancer found.  She went home on the 5th.
On November 10, we visited an old fashioned cane mill to watch them make syrup.  To read about it and see the pictures - Click here.
On November 22, we met Bob, Nita, Nathan and Jenna Best at Ryan's in Pearl, MS for Thanksgiving dinner.  We enjoyed the dinner and being with family.
The Florida Trip
On Monday, November 26, we left for our short trip to Florida.  We decided NOT to take the motorhome, because of all the problems, we'd had, so just went in the Honda.  We stopped, briefly, at the Welcome Center.
We had planned to stop over night in Pensacola, to visit friends, but they were to be out of town, so we continued to Milton, FL, where we visited with Joe's old buddy, Tom Gherke and his wife. Tom and Joe worked together at PHI and shared a trailer for awhile.  We enjoyed our visit, then continued to Chipley, FL, where Joe's brother,
Charles, lives. Since we arrived late, we just checked into the Executive Inn.  On Tuesday, we slept in, and visited them later that day, then stayed in the motel another night.  On Wednesday, we made it to Many Mansions RV Park, near Zephyrhills, FL where we visited with some old travel friends, Jim and Karen Church.  They had come by and camped in our yard for a few days, before coming to Florida, about 4 years ago. They had arranged for us to stay in a nice cabin at the campground, and we went out to dinner at the Chinese buffet.  On Thursday, we continued south to Naples, then east via "Alligator Alley" to Ft. Lauderdale.  We thought we'd see lots of alligators, but no such luck.            We got to the Ramada Resort Hotel, in Ft. Lauderdale, where our promotional tour package began, at 3PM.  We quickly learned that things aren't always as they seem.  We, supposedly, had a "prepaid" all expense vacation, but have discovered (so far) that we have to pay a $12/night "surcharge" for our hotel room, $2.15 surcharge each for our "free" meals, and $15/night parking fee, at the dock, for our 2 nights on the cruise ship.   On Friday, November 30, we will board the ship for our trip to Nassau.  We'll let you know of any other hidden charges, if they occur.
